THE BIO
JOHNNIE HAWKINS
Johnnie has performed in cathedrals, living rooms, barns, storefronts, art galleries and theaters throughout the world. Some of the co-theatrists along the way have included Basil Twist, Doug Elkins, Yehuda Duenyas, Liam Forde, Wayne Barker, Michael Portnoy, Gail Gilbert, and David Grenke, among many others. In 2006, he was the Narrator in Amoveo, a dance-work choreographed by Benjamin Millepied at the Palais Garnier in Paris with Nico Muhly as conductor. In 2006-2007, Johnnie toured the US singing the songs of Irving Berlin in I Love A Piano.
Along the way, Johnnie also helped artists present their works. In 1999, at Zeum Theater in San Francisco, Johnnie produced Symphonie Fantastique, an abstract underwater puppet show set to music by Hector Berlioz, conceived by Basil Twist. In 2012, he was behind Arias with a Twist, a theatrical collaboration between Basil Twist and Joey Arias, which played to great acclaim in New York City for many months at HERE Arts Center. Recently, he produced The Apple Boys Musical, an original musical comedy about Coney Island.
